After playing the ladies’ man in his two films, Saawariya and Bachna Ae Hasino, you would have thought Ranbir Kapoor would want a change. But he’s back to being the chocolate boy hero in his forthcoming Wake Up Sid, a college student role he’s clearly taken to strongly, given that he turned up for the film’s promotion at PVR Ambience Mall on Tuesday dressed in torn jeans and a tee. Accompanying him were co-star Konkana Sen Sharma and first-time director Ayan Mukerji who has written the story and screenplay.
Saawariya and Bachna Ae Hasino met with a lukewarm response and Kapoor has left no stone unturned to make his third outing more memorable. “I confronted my biggest phobia, water, when I was asked to jump into a pool for a promotional music video. I did it, though the water was neck deep,” he says.
Kapoor portrays Sidharth Mehra, who is caught in a dilemma as he prepares for his final year exams. “The most important things in his life are his friends, his car and his video game. I also faced the same confusion about my career, though I cannot be like Sid in real life,” says Kapoor. Life takes on some perspective when Sid meets an aspiring writer called Ayesha, played by Konkana Sen Sharma. The two hit it off instantly despite their contradicting personalities and the age difference.
